Halloween Hype 2009, Pt. X
[1973 / William Friedkin / *****] [trailer]
Truly one of the most powerful films I’ve seen… and seen… and seen. No matter how often I watch it, it continues to be superbly jarring. Friedkin’s visuals are as beautifully composed as the themes are challenging to the viewer. I still feel privileged to have seen the film on the big screen during the theatrical run of the extended “Version You’ve Never Seen” in 2000. That’s the version I watched this time as well (via the very convenient Exorcist Anthology DVD collection), if only because I haven’t watched it as often as the original (better) cut. And perhaps I was just in the mood for some spider-walking.
