Night of the Demons

And we’re off! Started this year’s October horror film viewings with a cheesy 80s classic that holds a nostalgic place in my heart. Despite owning the DVD for a few years, I hadn’t watched this since my high school years, when I had a VHS taped-off-late-night-TV unedited edition. I really enjoyed it back then for combining some standard (i.e. great) cheesy 80s horror tropes with a few excellent set-pieces (the strobe light dance scene; the lipstick scene; and for 15-year-old me, the quick early scene where the cute final girl Cathy Podewell changes her outfit) and some decent gore of course. Revisiting it after all this time didn’t disappoint in the least. It really took me back to watching it in my parents’ basement a decade and a half (!!) ago. I still can’t tell how “in on the joke” the film is but it doesn’t matter either way. It’s a damn fun time.
