Ottawa settles 7-week bus strike →
At last.
As pretty much everyone here in Canada’s fourth-largest city can attest, these past 51 days have been nightmarish for commuting. With the bus and light-rail services shut down during our coldest months, all major streets have been parking lots and/or anger management tests for far too long. With the buses and trains now scheduled to get back on track in the next week or two,...

Turning on a dime: 15 great gearshift movies →
Spoilers ahoy in this article (as expected, considering the topic).
I absolutely love this device in movies. Is it too much to ask that a film slap me in the face with radical twists and turns once and a while? I must be a cinematic masochist. There’s some perfect choices here, with the first being the ultimate of course. I’ve seen 13 out the 15 listed, so clearly I have a subliminal...

Four Stars →
fimoculous:
How film critics feel about using stars to rate films. Ebert’s four-star quote: “I don’t know where the stars come from, but they’re absurd. Often, people will cite my stars who obviously have not…
I spend far too much time worrying what star-rating to give a film, and I’m just a dude watches and maybe writes about a film entirely for my own amusement. I can imagine how bound...

Out 1 Celebrates All Things David Lynch →
Very nice. Plenty of solid Lynch related articles of late over at Out 1 as they celebrate David Lynch’s birthday week, with a few more to potentially follow. Every week should be Lynch Week in our lives. I know I can never read enough about Mulholland Dr., Eraserhead and all things Lynchian. Lynch.

Favourite Albums - 2008: 20-11
Today’s ten happen to have two ties. In both cases, the albums are true companion pieces that when combined create a cohesive creative whole. 20. The Streets - Everything Is Borrowed

Favourite Albums - 2008: 100-51
Quickly, some explanation of some albums not being listed.
- Robyn - Robyn (been listening to it since 2006. Even though it was a North American release in 20008, I can’t in good conscience list it again).
- Annie - Don’t Stop (similar situation as Robyn, only opposite [but equally Swedish]. Loved this album since the leak in September, but it hasn’t been formally released...

Favourite Albums - 2008: Preface
Before I begin counting down my top albums of last year (thoughout the coming week), I’ll run down some preamble and drop a few mini-lists. Like last year, I’m not bothering with any write-ups for the individual albums. Just a big ol’ list for #s 100 through 51 and or the rest I’ll include the album art and maybe mention a favourite track if I have the time.
So, yes, I’ve listened to over 100...

TCM Movie Database →
TCM’s movie db is coming along very nicely and should only grow better. I’m starting to hit it up more often as an alternative to IMDb. It will never really compete with the mother of all movie databases, but it certainly serves it’s own boutique purpose. Yes, I like it.
